My name is Michael Sirois. After a 30-year educational career, I’m now establishing myself as a writer. You can find out more about me at my website, but this site is about my latest set of novels, the If a Butterfly series.
I started working on If a Butterfly in November 2003, during National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). Its earliest drafts expanded from 53,000 to over 300,000 words over the next decade, then underwent massive trims and editing before it was close to ready for publication. In the meantime, I’ve written, edited, and published two other books (The Jagged Man and Aggravated), and have started work on a few others. Butterfly should probably have been published before Aggravated, but, for reasons that will be obvious if you read Aggravated, I had to finish it first. It will soon be Butterfly’s turn, though. It will be published as a two-book series in the fall of 2021 by the Flio Widdix Publishing Company. Book One in the series is called Chrysalis, and Book Two is Emergence. This blog is all about the process of writing this story, and why the work and research on it was so extensive.
